Maim - Deceased to Exist (2011)

Maim debuted as a strongly thrash influenced old school death metal band, and on their second album they continued this line by increased sound quality.
This dirty sound is definitely more related to the previously mentioned nostalgic movement of the Swedish scene, than to the traditional direction. In general "Deceased to Exist" is an intense album with basic thrashy and primitive themes, that are recalling the essence of the genre, but sometimes they also involve ominous slow downs, that giving some dark atmospheric impression to their music. These kind of Autopsy-like speed switches not referring only to the late '80s,/early '90s, but similar to the bands of those times, also remindig to the pop cultural influences, such as old (nowadays already vintage) horror movies, that were inspirational for the oldies in their teen ages. In fact horror by musical approach is somehow more successful if it's about the desired effect from the audience than films are. Since Death Breath mastered this direction on the highest possible level, Maim's music could be compared to theirs if an example was needed what they sound the most similar to. Maim is a potencial favorite for the fans of old school sound.
