Supuration - Back From The Crematory (2011)

   Supuration was one of the earliest French death metal bands, and therefore also one of the names (alongside bands like Massacra, Catacomb, Loudblast or Disabled) of the early '90s who barely received any support from their local audiences.
   "Back From The Crematory" is a compilation album that supposed to not allow the band's early old school death metal period to get lost in the mist of oblivion. The release includes the sound material of 3 temo tapes and an ancient live performance. The majority of the album is unfortunately hardly enjoyable because of the poor technical possibilities of recording of those times, but even in this form it's clear that the band was pretty skillful, and therefore more than underrated. When their first full-length album, "The Cube" came out in 1993, times were different already. Many death metal bands were looking for an alternative way for renewing the sound of the style (unsuccessfully), and Supuration was adaptable enough to keep up with the changes and actual trends of the main scene. And more importantly, to not fail where most most others did fail. Even though "The Cube" includes pretty impressive old school themes, it was like the mix of progressive ambitions, modern sound, and the weird experimentation of German bands of those times. From a less death-metal favoured perspective it's also a pretty enjoyable album and concept, but for those who prefer putrid sound and primitive approach, and are into early '90s rotting treasure hunt, "Back From The Crematory" is recommended.
