Mausolem was formed in 2001 as a band that didn't keep their Autopsy addiction in secret. Their debut "Cadaveric Displays of Ghoulish Ghastliness" recalled the themes and endlessly sick, putrid sound of old Autopsy.
Their second album "Back from the Funeral" might be more forward in effectiveness, cause the debut sounded like a rehearsal or demo compilation. But in general it's up to the listener which one is more advantageous to reach the rotting sound: the studio or the rehearsal quality. However "Back from the Funeral" sounds a bit more progressed in revealing the depths of musickness. Such as in Autopsy, their music builds on the contrast of catchier, slow, heavy themes and sudden intense speed ups. Even though there have been plenty of bands who tried themselves in this style, and most of them were successfully able to authentically imitate that exact feeling that made old Autopsy so exaggerated; it might be harsh to take them simply as Autopsy copies. That could be because it was such a genuine approach, and since with the same intensity it didn't last longer than 2 albums, and also even Autopsy doesn't want or can't play with the same intensity than before, their old sound is in short supply. Similar to the death metal bands of the late'80s/early'90s on the side of the good old gore and horror related (and often disgusting) topics there are plenty of exact references to find to horror movie classics. In total "Back from the Funeral" offers great old school death metal nostalgia for the fans of the style.
