Derision played an audience friendlier form of thrash metal with groovy influences that probably came from Pantera and Exhorder. This style is definitely compatible with mainstream audience too, but therefore it could be more difficult to spark attention by a kind of generic style and in the shadow of the big names by referring to them.
Intense speed combined with simple, groovy themes is always a good recipe to reach masses of people, especially on live shows because it's easy to go into and could assist the party mood well. Similar to newer thrash bands like Demiricous, the sound and the song structures also followed accurate tendencies, so for the fans of the modern sound of metal, or for younger audiences Derision's music was also easily consumable. In general "Ancient" was a quite promising debut, but for some reason the band wasn't active for long after, and therefore they didn't cause any explosion in the scene. Probably because of the evidently Pantera-like thrashy/groovy style, that at one hand was advantageous and enjoyable. But it also proved to be disadvantageous in another way, when it's about to deeply catch and keep the interest of the audience. Party compatible music that sounds familiar, easy to relate to, always could fire up the mood, but couldn't offer many further possibilites, or anything deeper.
