There have been plenty of of newly formed death metal bands who tried to imitate old school sound the most accurately, and some succeeded on a level that made barely possible to hear the difference. But these tryings usually focused on the most ancient dirty, noisy sound of the '80s. Skeletal Remains on the other hand were probably inspired by the late came higher sound quality, therefore "Beyond the Flesh" sounds like a Morrisound record from the early '90s. Their music was mainly influenced by Death's "Leprosy" and "Spiritual Healing" era. The themes are simpler than in Death, but there are frequent references to find in the riffs and the solos. They preferred to switch between middle speed and basic thrashing, that combined with the simple themes and the suffocating vocal style reminds to Asphyx. The combination of references and sound is completely working, and makes them an excellent '90s death metal nostalgia band, since it's recalling something that was long lost and missed from the main scene. However, even though it's evident, that to create something new or genuine nowadays is somewhere between impossible and extremely difficult; by passing through a certain level in references, the production easily could become an ordinary copycat. For the most obsessed fans of the early '90s Death, Massacre and Asphyx nostalgia, who could never get bored of listening the exact themes and sound from multiply bands over and over again, such productions might be welcomed. But from another perspective the same reasons that gave the band the advantage, are also their most disadvantageous features if it's about genuineness.
