Autopsy - The Tomb Within (2010)

Impatient waiting preluded the long awaited return of Autopsy. Their endlessly sick and obscure style of death metal inspired countless bands and  plenty of newer bands formed trying to imitate them. The main reason of the whole thing could have been that the band split-up in 1995 and their lack have left behind a great empty hole in the extreme scene, that needed to be fulfilled again.
The 2 new songs including single release "Horrific Obsession" proved to be a great teaser and it was promising that the band gave a hint that they're planning to return to their notorious early style. These songs later took place on the "Severed Survival" re-release as bonus tracks. The band's last 2 albums "Acts of the Unspeakable" and "Shitfun" had some experimenting intention and partly didn't match in heaviness and quality with their first 2 iconic albums, partly they were closer to the style that later the members other punk influenced band, Abcess had. "The Tomb Within" didn't disappoint the old fans. That made Autopsy's returnd kind of extraordinary, because most big and long awaited returns usually failing the expectations of the old fans whether they're successful or not, because they used to happen with an unwanted style change, or a weak self-imitation that lacks real inspiration. Even though it might be difficult (if it's even possible) to turn back into the swing that a band had decades ago, but it seemed to work for Autopsy. The EP was intense and devastating, and also recalled the once so obscure, heavy feeling with the ominous slow downs. The contrast and great combination of these 2 exaggerated features made the old Autopsy albums to take place in the line of the sickest releases of the genre.
