Derkéta - In Death We Meet (2012)

It took nearly a decade for Derkéta to return after the compilation Goddess of Death, that included their songs from the '90s. And this return was committed by a new line-up and with new songs.
Compared to their old songs, "In Death We Meet" has more balanced song structures, since there's no signs of experimenting to find anymore. They have been written by a determined, more experienced band, but that also erased their fresh and raw touch. It's also not a rehearsal quality record, and the clean sound kind of took from their previous strongly noisy atmospheric effect, whether it was intentional before or not. For some (or for most) better sound quality naturally increases the enjoyabilty, but after hearing how their songs sounded before, somehow some missing feeling might remain. Except that their style didn't change, and their new music couldn't be disappointing for old fans. It's definitely nostalgic and refreshing the same time to listen to these very familar gloomy themes in a new presentation. Their musically more mature approach also had advantageous effect, since the lack of experimenting also means that they've found the middle path of death/doom and they're walking on it confidently, without temporarily switching too radically into death or doom metal themes. That was definitely the most common way of the earliest projects in the genre in the early '90s. With other words, "In Death We Meet" also made sure that even though from the side of the band the old school concept, the main inspiration and their genuine approach didn't change, still two decades have been passed, and this perspective might make this album even more exciting to listen.
