Gorephilia had a quite obscure and heavy debut, that in style was more related to American bands like Broken Hope, Incantation or Immolation, than to the well known features of the Finnish scene.
The song structures, the sound, the vocal style, the main concept, so every feature reminds to the heaviest death metal bands of the early '90s. Even though the members were quite young that time, and didn't have reasonable musical past, they've produced such all-round high quality music, that might be enviable even for well practiced musicians, who are active in the scene since decades. "Embodiement of Death" definitely have been created in old school spirit, but the great sound quality reflects the that time recent tendencies. It's quite clean according to the style, only the down tuned heaviness gives really rough impression. The frequent switches between middle speed, thrash based intensity and extreme brutality makes the album enjoyable for long term, since collapsing into repetitiveness at any level was completely avoided. This makes "Embodiement of Death" a potencial favorite for both the fans of old school and the modern sound of death metal.
